I am a licensed psychiatrist in the state of Oregon. Psychiatrists are medical doctors with special training in treating mental, emotional, behavioral, and interpersonal problems. I received my medical degree (MD) from the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in 1989. I then did a 4-year psychiatry residency training program at the University of New Mexico Affiliated Hospitals, finishing in 1993. I am board certified in general psychiatry with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Board certification now requires ongoing training and evaluation to maintain certification.
Since finishing my training, I have worked in a variety of settings, including outpatient community mental health in Durham, North Carolina; Samaritan Mental Health at Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis; Oregon State University, and 15 years of office-based private practice in Corvallis which I closed in 2020.
I currently teach psychotherapy and psychiatry, and I supervise psychiatry residents (doctors in psychiatry training) at Samaritan Mental Health in Corvallis, OR.
Beginning in June 2023, I developed Serenity and Strength LLC, a 100% tele-mental health service providing Oregon residents with online therapy and limited online medication management.
Training and learning are ongoing and lifelong. I work to stay current, especially in my primary interest areas, including cognitive therapy, behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, medication management, anxiety disorders, trauma treatments, and unipolar depression.
I am a member of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA) and the International Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Foundation (IOCDF).
